Pembroke – Earl Ross Meachum Jr., 87, passed away at Calais Regional Hospital on May 24, 2016 with his wife by his side. Earl was born to Earl Sr. and Grace (Dunn) Meachum on July 13, 1928 in Winstead, CT.
He enlisted with the United States Army Air Force and served most of his time in Alaska before moving to Maine where he married Gertrude C. Estabrooks on July 30, 1965 in Portland. Together they raised four children in Pembroke. Earl enjoyed many things in addition to hunting, fishing, watching old TV shows and movies or reading western books, but above all he loved spending time with his family.
Earl is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Gertrude Meachum; four children, Shirley Evans and her husband Robert of Winter Springs, FL, Reta Freeman and her husband Jim of Lawrence, KS, Lawrence Carver Jr. of Washington D.C. and Thomas Carver and his wife Cheryl of Westbrook; a dear cousin who was more like a brother, Ray Antone and his wife Arleine of Dennysville; cousin Marion Prisk and her husband Robert of CT.; thirteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and five feline companions whom he loved dearly.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28th at Dennysville Cemetery with Pastor Gary Kinney officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
