Obituary for Edward Ernest Fleisch

Calais – Pastor Edward Ernest Fleisch, 69, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 at a Bangor hospital with his wife and daughter by his side. Ed was born in New Jersey on July 2, 1945, son of the late Arthur and Helen (Smith) Fleisch. After graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and on January 8, 1965, he married Sandra Olson in East Rutherford, NJ. Ed worked at Morgan Guaranty Trust in New York City and in 1976 he moved to Massachusetts to attend Atlantic Union College, where he graduated with a degree in Theology. He moved to Maine in 1979 and was the minister for the Calais and Whiting Seventh Day Adventist Churches. Following the death of his wife in 2009, Ed retired from ministry. On March 10, 2014, he married Diane Plant in Saint John, N.B. Ed was an avid train collector, working with leather, and in his younger years enjoyed being a Christian Clown. Pastor Ed will be missed by many and remembered for his gentle and caring nature.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two granddaughters, Nicole and Danielle Sufficool; a sister June; and his brother Arthur. Surviving are his wife Diane Plant of St. Stephen, NB; his daughter Christina Sufficool and her husband John of Okeechobee, FL; a grandson Bradley Sufficool; and his extended family in the Seventh Day Adventist community.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Pastor Ed’s life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, December 21 at the Three Angels Seventh-day Adventist Community Church on Route 1 in Whiting. Burial will follow in Split Hill Cemetery, Lubec.
