Baring – Eileen Elizabeth Lewis, 98, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Eileen was born in Baring on November 22, 1922, daughter of James and Annie (English) Moreside.
Eileen attended the Calais Academy and on July 18, 1941, she married her love, Carl A. Lewis. She started working at Ware Knitters in Calais where she retired with 38 years of service. Eileen enjoyed baking and cooking, playing Bingo and was a avid Red Sox fan. She was a faithful member of the Baring Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Above all else, Eileen’s most cherished moments were times spent with her family, especially the family holiday dinners.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years Carl; their son Lawrence; son-in-law Charles Leighton; two sisters, Freda and Norma; and a brother Herbert. Surviving are four children, James Lewis and wife Sharon of Charlotte, Carlene Eaton and husband Robert of East Hartford, CT, Janet Leighton of Baileyville, and Dale Lewis and wife April of Baileyville; daughter-in-law Sharon Lewis of Evans Mills, NY; ten grandchildren, David, Dawn, Joshua, Lisa, Marilyn, Charlie, James Robert, James Michael, Tracy and Heather; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank her two special caregivers, Esther Toizer and Eileen Newman, for the excellent care given to Eileen.
A Celebration of Eileen’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Baring Baptist Church, Front St., Baring with Pastor Bobby Oliver officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Baring Cemetery. Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Baring Baptist Church, PO Box 315, Calais, ME 04619.
