CALAIS & BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Elaine Ann (Christakos) Carpenter, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017, with her family by her side, in Boynton Beach, Florida. She is reunited with her husband, James R. Carpenter, who passed away in 1996.
Elaine was born January 7, 1937 in Old Town, Maine to Nick G. Christakos and Thelma D. (Ouellette) Christakos. She lived in Bangor until the age of 13 when her parents moved the family to Calais, Maine. She graduated Calais Memorial High School in 1954.
She married James Carpenter in 1955 and had 5 children. Elaine was an employee of the State of Maine, working for the Maine District Court System for 28 years. She was a loving devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved to read, sew, knit, go to bingo, and decorate, especially at Christmas. She enjoyed spending her summers in Maine and winters in Florida.
Elaine is survived by her loving children, Deb (Carpenter) Doherty and husband Tom, of Rockport; Rick Carpenter and Nell Walton, of Calais; Brenda (Carpenter) Elliott, of Union; Linda (Carpenter) Rundin and husband James, of Calais; and Chris Carpenter and fiancé Julie Wile, of Thomaston; her grandchildren, Angie, Jessi, Tess, Jerami, Luke, Uriah, Logan, Deni, Becky, Alaina, Joseph, Heather, Nick, and Travis; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother George Curtis and wife Katarina (Ring) Curtis of Schenectady, NY; brother-in-law Jesse Carpenter and his wife, Lois (Johnson) Carpenter of New Haven, Conn; sister-in-law, Patricia (Carpenter) Cox of Princeton; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles and a very special aunt/sister, Dot (Ouellette) Marchant of Camden. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a grandson.
The family sends special thanks to the Cardiac ICU staff of Bethesda Hospital East and to Trust Bridge Hospice for their excellent and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Elaine's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9th at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, a reception will follow at Calais Motor Inn, 663 Main St. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
