Obituary for Eleanor Mae Langway

Calais – Eleanor “Ellie” Mae Caswell Langway, 83, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Eleanor was born in St. Stephen, NB on June 11, 1930, daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Fitzpatrick) Dinsmore. After graduating from high school in St. Stephen, she worked for Ganong Chocolate as a secretary. In 1967 she went to school at Calais Regional Hospital, becoming a CNA, and later earned her Med Tech certification. In addition to Calais Regional Hospital, Eleanor worked for Brockton Hospital in Massachusetts, and numerous nursing homes in the state of Maine. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in both Calais and Milltown where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir director, treasurer, and the church organist. Eleanor had a love for music and sang with Sweet Adelines and her own group, Treble Tones.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William Langway whom she married in 1972; a daughter Brenda Caswell; and a step-son David Langway. Surviving are two children, Cathy Courtois and husband Steven of Lyman, and Mark Caswell of Portland; three step-children, Geneva Frost of Perry, Sherry Langway of Bangor, and Cindy Orcutt and husband Gerald of Ellsworth; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Dinsmore and wife Pauline of St. Stephen, NB, and Douglas Dinsmore and wife Margaret of St. Stephen, NB; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Pilgrims’ Home Cemetery in Monroe. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
