Calais – Elizabeth Marie “Betty” Hatton, 93, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Calais Community Hospital with her loving daughter by her side. Betty was born in Calais on December 13, 1928. Due to the untimely passing of her mother, she was raised by her grandmother Sophia Stone.
Betty worked for 25 years at JJ Newbury’s in Calais and was a member of the Cathance Grange #510. Betty had many enjoyments in life but her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She was always eager to attend any activity her two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Quinn, were involved in. They were her world. Betty was known as “Nan” to so many people and she loved each one dearly. She will be greatly missed by all.
On September 3, 1950 she married her love, Carleton Hatton. They spent many years together fishing, camping, attending fairs, and wintering in Florida while spending summers at their home on Cathance Lake.
In addition to her mother Florence Stone, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Carleton Hatton; grandparents, Sophia and William Stone; and her siblings, Evelyn Stanhope, Mae Bayliss, and Harold, Lewis and William Stone. Surviving are her daughter Brenda Robb and husband Daniel of Calais; granddaughter Jennifer Fleming and husband Corey of Hampden; two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Quinn Fleming of Hampden; her great “granddog” Buster Fleming; sister-in-law Coralie Clark of Charlotte; special nephew and wife, Bruce and Stacie Hatton of Pembroke; special friend Frances McClure of Calais; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Round Pond Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
