With gratitude for a long and generous life well lived, the family of Ella M. Robinson announce her passing on September 7, 2023, at the age of 89. Ella was born in Lubec on September 19, 1933, daughter of the late Jasper and Tryphena (Tyler) Cheney.
From 1933 to 1949, Ella was brought to Libby Island by boat when she was just a few weeks old, and then to Whitlocks Mill Light Station in Calais until 1953. On April 4, 1953, she married Keith Richard Robinson at the Whitlock Mills Light Station. As the only daughter of a lighthouse keeper, Ella spent many years on Libby Island Light Station in Machias Bay with her family. She was interviewed in 2002 by The Lighthouse Digest magazine ( http://www.lighthousedigest.com/Digest/StoryPage.cfm?StoryKey=1613 ). Ella, at nearly 90 years of age, was one of the last children of lighthouse keepers.
In addition to her parents Jasper and Tryphena Cheney, Ella was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Keith Robinson; and her brothers Roland Cheney and wife Viola, and Forrest Cheney. She is survived by her children, Victor Robinson and wife Rebecca of Belfast, Sharon Pollock and husband Greg of Robbinston, and Jeff Robinson of Bath; grandson Jason Drake and wife Bridgette of Bangor; great-grandson Joe Whitten; great-great grandson Hunter Whitten; her much loved niece Anne Seavey and family of Lubec; and nephew Joe Cheney and family of Veazie. Her lifelong friendship with the McGraw family of Calais, sisters Sharon, Debbie and Suzy, continued throughout her life for which she was so grateful.
The family is eternally grateful for the tremendous care provided first by the staff of Freeses Assisted Living Center in Bangor, then Maine Veterans Home of Bangor.
