Topsfield and Princeton – Elwin Hubert Severance, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Calais Regional Hospital with his daughters by his side. Elwin was born in Topsfield on November 13, 1930, son of the late Lloyd and Mary (Cochran) Severance. After graduating from Lee Academy, Class of 1948, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a mechanic during the Korean War. Following his service Elwin returned home and began a career with Dicenzo’s, where he worked for almost 50 years. He was a member of the American Legion in Topsfield, the Princeton Rod & Gun Club, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, going on bus tours, playing cribbage, going for coffee at the Big Stop, and most of all, his family.
In addition to his parents, Elwin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gertrude (McGraw) Severance; a son Keith; two brothers, Neil and Raymond; and a sister Irene Hunnewell. Surviving are his two daughters, Lisa Smith and husband Doug of Princeton, and Karen Chambers and husband Mike of Calais; five grandchildren, Connie and her husband Curtis, Rebecca and her companion Andy, Nichole, Johnny and his wife Bailey, and Blaine; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Alexis, Aurora, Nathan, Natalie and Keegan; many nieces and nephews; and his camping friends at Elsmore’s Landing.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Princeton Cemetery. Following the service a celebration of Elwin’s life will be held at Lisa’s home, 81 Eastern Cutoff Rd., Princeton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elwin’s memory may be made to the Princeton Rod & Gun Club, PO Box 154, Princeton, ME 04668. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
