Dennysville – Erma Jane “Janie” Wilder Small, 64, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 18, 2022 in Dennysville after a long battle with breast cancer.
Janie was born in Skowhegan on February 10, 1958, to Leigh R. and Estella E. (Page) Wilder. She was raised in Rockland, moving to Dennysville after her father’s passing. She lived in her beloved Dennysville the remainder of her life.
Janie was employed by the Dept. of Labor as an Employment Specialist III in Machias for 28 years until her illness. She was a dedicated advocate for Washington County youth in assisting with employment and training goals. Through many accomplishments and awards, she was most proud to bring home a National Award for best specialist in the nation.
Many fond memories were made with many friends. One always knew when Janie entered the room bringing humor and laughter. She loved to talk of times past and had a deep sense of history, especially family. An avid fisher of trout, our “Trout Lady” never revealed those secret fishing spots.
Known by many and loved by all, Janie was a loyal and giving friend. She was so thankful to “Janie’s girls” for her care these last three years along with CHCS staff and Dr. Susan Luthin, MD, and so many others.
Janie was predeceased by her parents and niece. Surviving are her sister, Ray Ann Wilder; and her nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Janie’s wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.MaysFuneralHome.com
