Errol Hazen Trafton, aged 80, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, October 24, 2024. Born on October 17, 1944, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of Burton and Nellie (Palmer) Trafton.
Following his graduation from Lawrence Station High School, Errol embarked on a journey that led him to California. Eventually he returned to his roots in New England where he dedicated over 42 years to his career as a lineman for Eastern Maine Electric Co-op, a role that showcased his unwavering work ethic and commitment to service. On September 5, 1970, he found his true partner in life when he married Therese Morin, a bond that flourished for 54 years, filled with love and shared adventures.
Errol was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Calais and proudly held the title of 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #149. His spirit resonated in nature; an avid outdoorsman, he relished the thrill of hunting, the joy of riding his motorcycle, and the comfort of reading. Travel and playing cards brought him joy, yet it was the time spent with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, that he cherished most.
Errol is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Margaret Lincoln, brother Eugene Trafton, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Guilmond, Gerard, Benoit, Velma, and Diane. His legacy continues through his dedicated wife, Therese; his two children, Ryan Trafton and his wife Melissa of Douglasville, GA, and Brianne Burtt of Eastport, ME; and three cherished grandchildren, Sydney Trafton of Demorest, GA, Caroline Trafton of Douglasville, GA, and Zachary Burtt of Eastport, ME. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Tarbell and her husband Elliott of Marshfield, ME, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rina Swiderski, Murielle and Paul Smith, and Vivianne and Ken McLeod, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Roland Berngeh 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, at Immaculate Conception Church, 31 Calais Ave, Calais.
