Baileyville – Estella Elmira Johnson, 96, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital. Estella was born in Pembroke on May 19, 1916, daughter of the late Frank and Annie (Summerton) Barnes. She graduated from Pembroke High School, Class of 1934, and moved to Robbinston to become a babysitter. In August of 1936 she married her sweetheart Clarence E. Johnson. Estella then worked in various factories packing sardines, cleaning tuna and making wreaths until beginning her career in the winding room at Guilford Industries. In the early 1980’s, she moved to Baileyville to live beside her daughter Dorothy. Estella was a member of Robbinston Ridge Methodist Church where she was involved with the Willing Workers and was a Lay Leader. She enjoyed knitting, reading, listening to music, visiting friends, and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1970; her daughter Ruth Peare; siblings Parthenia Allen, Florence Johnson, Kathleen Tarbell, Frank Barnes and Lansing Barnes; two half-brothers, James and Carroll Barnes; and her faithful canine companion Orie. Surviving are her daughter Dorothy A. Johnson of Baileyville; three grandchildren, Donna Peare and her husband Dennis Stevens of Jay, CSM Scott Peare and his wife Annette of Ft. Hood, TX, and Linda Peare and her companion Allen Dudley of Grafton, MA; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Peare and his wife Megan, and Matthew Peare, all of Michigan; a great-great grandson Nathan; her sister Marguerite Mains of Pembroke; many special nieces and nephews; and her special friend and caretaker Karlaine Livingston of Baileyville. Visiting hours will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service, 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A spring burial will take place at Ridge Cemetery in Robbinston. Donations in Estella’s memory may be made to Paws Brave Hearts Blue Fund, 368 South St., Calais, ME 04619, or a charity of one’s choice.
