Calais – Eugene Everett Phinney, 59, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his home. Gene was born in Eastport, January 2, 1947, son of Everett and Hilda (Otto) Phinney. After high school, Gene served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He married Donna Wilson in Westbrook on October 23, 1987. Gene was employed as a fire fighter for the Portland Fire Dept. for over 20 years, retiring in 1990. Upon retirement, Gene and his wife relocated to Calais, where he was employed by Georgia Pacific for 10 years. He was a member of Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion in Calais for over 26 years and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Gene was predeceased by his father; and a son, Michael Guidi. Surviving are his wife Donna of Calais; his mother, Hilda Harrington and her husband Pat of Eastport; five children, Eugene Phinney and wife Michelle of Buxton; John Phinney, Christopher Guidi, and Amanda Guidi, all of Calais; a step-daughter, Barbara Blair and husband Bruce of Wisconsin; a sister, Ellen Arsenau of Eastport; five grandchildren, Caleb, Shelby, and Haley Phinney, and Steven and Shiana Blair; a special little friend Snow Lilly Altvater; many close friends; two canine companions, Missy and Tuffy; and two feline companions, Sweetie and Coco.
