Obituary for Eva Mae Johnson

Robbinston – Eva Mae Johnson, 82, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Robbinston Bridge Home. Eva was born in Robbinston on December 24, 1928, daughter of the late Fred and Florence (Butler) Merryfield. Shortly after graduating from Calais Academy, she moved to Massachusetts where she worked as a secretary and also for Necco Wafers. In October 1948, she married Ernest “Bud” Johnson in Lubec. They moved to Milford, New Hampshire, and lived there for 30 years. While in Milford she worked in local offices and raised their daughter, Judy. Eva and Bud eventually moved back to their home town of Robbinston. She worked in the office for Coastal Glass in Calais, and in her later years became the Robbinston Town Clerk and Treasurer. Eva enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, picking blueberries and canning. In addition to her parents, Eva was predeceased by two brothers, Perley and Beverly Merryfield. Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, Bud Johnson; her daughter Judy Gillam and her husband William “Robin” of Marietta, GA and Robbinston; two grandsons, Danny Gillam PhD of Providence, RI, and Mark Gillam of Marietta, GA; a brother George Merryfield and his wife Faye of Bangor; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Bernard and Ann Johnson of Red Beach, Elaine Merryfield of Robbinston, and Lena Malloch of Eastport; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, including Ruth Hardy of Nashua, NH and Beverly Weeks of Skowhegan. Visiting hours will be held 10 – 12 noon on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Brewer Cemetery, Robbinston.
