EAST WATERBORO AND PERRY – Evelyn May Humphries Brown passed away on March 28, 2014 in the presence of her family at the home of her daughter Ellen and son-in-law Steve Ross. She was born in Perry, Maine on October 21, 1913, a daughter of Austin and Lola Humphries.
She graduated from Shead Memorial High School of Eastport where she was captain of the girls’ basketball team and all county forward of Washington county. She was a graduate of Washington State Normal School and received a B.S. degree from Washington State College of Machias, Maine. For 33 years she taught in the elementary schools in Charlotte, Perry, Eastport, Baileyville, and Bath, Maine. She touched the lives of many, many young students who never forgot her. She was very active in her community being a member of the Pythian Sisters, D.A.R. Literary Round Table, Milltown Extension, and St. Croix Valley Garden Club. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing and giving away her beautiful flowers and vegetables. She was a very active Granger, belonging to the State and National Granges Pennamaquam Chapter and Hollis Grange. She was a member of Eastern Star, the Retired Teachers Organization, and Cornerstone Baptist Church of Scarborough, Maine.
She was predeceased in 2004 by her beloved husband, C. Donald Brown of 66 years of marriage and in 2006 by her loving daughter Lola Brown SenGupta of Gastonia, N.C. She is survived by her daughter Ellen Ross and son-in-law Steve Ross of East Waterboro, Maine, son-in-law Sisir SenGupta of Gastonia, N.C. and Puerto Rico, grandchildren Mark SenGupta and wife Jane of Houston, Texas, Shelia Bovard and husband Richard of Charlotte, N.C., Jessemar Ross of Gray, Maine, and Roxanne Tes of Lowell, Massachusetts, great grandchildren Ryan and Patrick Bovard of Charlotte, N.C., Kathryn SenGuptsa of Houston, Texas, Tegan Ross of Fairfield, Maine, Neil Ross of Gray, Maine, Karmilo Ross, Michael Tes, Seth Tes, Evan Tes, Natalie Tes, and Christopher Tes of Lowell, Massachusetts, niece Betty Dyer of Perry, Maine and nephews Austin and Robert Humphries of Perry, Maine and Fred Bucklin of Appleton, Maine.
At her request a graveside service will be held at the Leland Cemetery in Perry in late spring. Arrangements are by Mays Funeral Home Flagg Chapel, Eastport, Maine.
