Baring – Evelyn June Johnson, 89, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at Calais Regional Hospital. Evelyn was born in Calais on June 15, 1927, the youngest of 10 children to Jerry and Winnifred (Preston) Doten. At a young age, she went to work for Ware Knitters where she met the love of her life, Norman Johnson. Shortly after they were united in marriage and Evelyn left work to raise their five children. She attended Baring Baptist Church and enjoyed knitting, cooking, and above all else, spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Norman, in 2005; a son Bobby in 1984; and her nine siblings. Surviving are her four children, Terry Johnson and wife Fran of Baring, Jean Joaquin and husband Joe of Old Town, Marilyn Ross and husband Jeff of Norwich, CT, and Timothy Johnson and wife Wendy of Baring; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, George Moreshead of Calais; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks goes to the staff at Calais Regional Hospital for their excellent care, and to her grandson Jason Willett, who was instrumental in her care over the last few months of her life.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Baring Baptist Church, 47 Front St., Baring. Burial will follow in Baring Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
