Sipayik – Evelyn "Epo" Newell, 45, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 22, 2013. Evelyn was born in Eastport on August 15, 1968, daughter to Timothy and Mary Ursula (Stanley) Newell. After graduating from Lee Academy, Class of 1986, she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. While in New Mexico, Evelyn worked in the administrative and accounting field until returning to Maine in 2007. She was then employed with Northeast Blueberry and most recently as an administrative assistant with Pleasant Point Health Center. Evelyn enjoyed playing games, spending time with her family and friends, and was most proud of her two boys whom she loved dearly. Evelyn will be remembered by all for her contagious laugh and her smile that brought out her dimples.
Evelyn was predeceased by her father Timothy Newell Sr.; a brother Michael Wilson; and a nephew Ryan Newell Jr. Surviving are her two beloved children, Christopher and Mitchell Newell of Belen, NM; her mother Ursula Newell of Sipayik; four sisters, Molly Newell and wife Birda of Sipayik, Adele Moore and husband Gerry of Sipayik, Rena Newell and companion Mhammed Sbaibi of Sipayik, and Frances Mershon and husband Greg of Los Lunas, NM; four brothers, Ryan Newell and wife Lisa of Sipayik, Louis Newell and companion Tristin Phillips of Sipayik, Joseph Wilson and companion Renee of Eastport, and Timothy Newell Jr. of Sipayik; a very special aunt Molly Minno of Calais; aunts and uncles, Blanche Sockabasin of Indian Township, Patricia Socabasin of Indian Township, Donald Stanley Sr. of Sipayik, and Andrew Dana Sr. of Sipayik; a numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visiting hours will be held starting 12 noon Monday, Nov. 25, at the home of Ryan Newell, 28 Wapap Rd., Pleasant Point, until 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at St. Ann R.C. Church, Pleasant Point, with Father Rob Lupo, Celebrant. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
