Obituary for Everett Robert Gillespie

Meddybemps – Everett R. Gillespie, 83, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 27, 2007. Everett was born in Meddybemps on March 17, 1924, the son of the late Robert and Bessie (Perkins) Gillespie. After graduating Calais Academy, he worked for Georgia Pacific 24 years before leaving to work on the family potato and blueberry farm, eventually establishing his own “Gillespie Blueberry Farm”. He believed in hard work and did so until his last days. Everett loved to hunt, fish and grow a vegetable garden. He is survived by two daughters, Frances A. Cammack of Bangor and Nancy A. Hanson and her husband David Brown of Red Beach; sisters, Hilda Crosby of Cooper, Ruth Woods and Joyce Brown, both of Meddybemps; companion Eleanor Clark and their canine companion, Heidi; five grandchildren, Ricki Morrill, Troy Hanson, Fonda Thibodeau, Joshua Scearbo and Culley Thibodeau; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney, Natashia, Alexis, Morgan, McKenna, Everett and Frederick; nephews, Dennis, Chick, Pete, Mike, and Joey; nieces, Lisa and Theresa. He was predeceased by his first wife, Effie (Perkins); parents Robert and Bessie; brothers, Milford, Charles and Dale; and a granddaughter, Tanya Thibodeau. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Meddybemps Cemetery with Pastor Rolfe Flood officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Everett’s memory may be made to Downeast Hospice, 24 Hospital Lane, Calais, ME 04619, or to Meddybemps Christian Assoc., C/O Liz Trouant, 120 Conant Hill Rd., Meddybemps, ME 04657.
