Fern Virginia (Strout) Garner, age 80, of Alexander, Maine passed away July 22, 2019 in Bangor, Maine. She was born April 26, 1939 to Lyman Strout and Doris (Dwelley) Strout Edgerly. She graduated from Calais Memorial High School in 1957, the same year she married Donald (Don) Garner. They were happily married for 42 years.
After marriage, Fern moved to Kansas City, Missouri and worked for Anchor Savings & Loan and Brotherhood Bank & Trust. Through the years, she worked as a teller, administrative assistant and branch manager. An active member of Tower View Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir. After Don's retirement in 1994, they moved home to Alexander, and she continued her love of music by singing in the choir as a member of Church of the Open Bible. She had many beloved pets through the years, including 4 Pekingese and 3 cats.
Survivors include her daughter Rebecca (Shane) Wright, and granddaughter Katherine Wright of Lathrop, Missouri, sister Winifred Carroll of Bangor, nieces Sharon (Gerald) Cooper of Alexander, Linda (Frank) Smith of Hermon, and nephews Peter (Andrea) Phelan of Dedham, and Lyman Phelan of Glenburn, along with several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather George Edgerly, husband Donald Garner, sister Lois Faloon, and brothers-in-law Edward Carroll and Randall Faloon.
The family is very grateful to the staff of Westgate Rehab and Alzheimer's Care for their excellent and compassionate care.
Services will be Saturday, July 27th at Church of the Open Bible, Alexander, with Pastor Chip Howell officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 am, with the funeral service following at 11 am.
