Obituary for Frances Pauline Hooper

Eastport and Deer Island. Polly passed resting peacefully July 31st, 2011 after a courageous battle with Alzheimers. She was born Nov. 24, 1932 to Frank Jonah and Josephine (Johnson) Lord; raised on Deer Island by her Uncle and Aunt William and Edith Sirles. After graduating from Deer Island consolidated School in 1949 she moved to Eastport where she married James “Jimmy” Hooper. Together they raised a family while living in various places as Jimmy’s Air Force career progressed. They returned to Eastport in 1973 where she worked in several Eastport businesses. In recent years she has resided in Falmouth and Calais.

Survivors include: one daughter, Hope Robinson and husband Richard of Belfast, ME; one son James and wife Suellen of Gloucester, VA; three grandchildren, Joshua Murphy of Ellicott City, MD, James Murphy, of Washington D.C. and Dr. Sarah Learman of Mt. Pleasant, MI; three sisters Rena M. Doughty of Leonardville, Deer Island, Jean Lengowicz of Ashburn, VA and Marjorie Morton of Portland, ME, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her Parents, her Uncle and Aunt who raised her, husband James Hooper, four sisters Melva Lord, Merle (Mim) Parks, Mildred McKinney, Winnifred Eaton and one brother Arthur Sirles.

By her request there will be no visitation. Burial at sea will be held at a later date. Donations to the charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements are in the care of Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
