On March 21st 2024, surrounded by family, Frances Jane Mitchell Segien passed away at Northern Light Hospital in Bangor after a short but courageous battle with cancer. The last baby to be born and brought home from Eastport Memorial Hospital, she arrived on August 27th 1968 to her blessed parents Regina Morrison Mitchell and Maurice Gracen Mitchell.
She attended Eastport schools and graduated from Shead Memorial High School in 1986. Her life changed forever in 1987 when she met her soulmate and true life partner, Roger Segien who had moved back home to Eastport from California. They were married on March 4th of 1989 in a small ceremony at her parents’ home with close friends and family. They went on to work together through their entire marriage and owned several small businesses. They did woodworking with her father, creating wishing wells, small furniture, and hand painted creations some of which still can be seen around the area today. They also owned a seafood shop, redemption center, and an Ebay business where they traveled and enjoyed auctions.
Most notably though, she followed her natural passion and skill with art and became a tattoo artist. They owned Jaded Ink Tattoo for over 18 years, and became a staple to the community, bringing business to Pembroke and Eastport from all over. She was able to travel to tattoo conventions across the country which she loved. For many years during festivals she would sit with Roger outside of the shop and between appointments placing “stick on” tattoos to a line of eager kids.
Although she had many happy years enjoying her work endeavors, nothing filled her heart with more joy than being a mother to her two daughters, and ”Nana” to her four grandchildren. She did school pick ups and drop offs, sleepovers, video games, special birthday cakes, and was known for never saying “no”. A place she loved most in the world was where ultimately they built their home, together, board by board, at the cove on Battery street here in Eastport. She frequented the beach most days and collected sea glass and treasures, many of which she created decorations, lamps, and window ornaments with. She was a remarkably self-less woman, who cared for family and friends, wherever they were, or however they needed her. She went long lengths and far distances to care for family members on both sides of her family when they became sick.
Waiting in heaven for her were, both maternal and paternal grandparents, Frances and Hazen Morrison, Charles and Margaret Mitchell. Her loving father, of whom she missed so very much, Maurice Mitchell, both her father and mother-in-law, James Segien and Moneda Auclair. She leaves behind so many who love her, but most notably her devoted husband and life partner of 36 years, Roger Segien. Her mother, Regina Mitchell, her daughter Sarah Segien, grandchildren Aubree Trott and Ashlynn Demolet of whom she shares her birthday. Her daughter and son-in-law Shelly Segien and Francis Burgess, grandchildren Grayson Candelmo and Raeya Burgess. Her brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Ronnie Mitchell, niece Billie Jo Mitchell, great niece Lauren, nephews Wilder Mitchell and Chase Mitchell. Brother and sister-in-law Brian and Cathy Mitchell, nieces Melissa Haynes, Elizabeth Spinney, and nephew Brian Mitchell. Sister-in-law and special lifelong friend Dierdre Segien, sister-in-law Heather McCarthy, sister-in-law Kenna McCarthy, nephews Derek and Garrett, and niece Katelyn. She was also very close with her Aunt in law Kathy Segien Lepage, her husband Larry Lepage, niece Jennifer and her daughter Kaylee, Ronnie and Peggy Segien, Michael and Susan. She leaves behind too many friends and family to mention. Lifelong friends like Shelley Mitchell, Tobi Wuchter, and her special “Poker Crew”. As well as the thousands of friends she met and kept during the many years at “The Shop”. Franny is loved forever, and will be missed forever.
A celebration of life will be held in early May, alongside of a benefit dinner and raffle to help her family during these difficult times. Details will continue to be posted. For now she rests easy with her husband at their home, facing the ocean, and with those she loved so much. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
