Baileyville – Frances Marie Shain, 84, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. Frances was born on December 7, 1930 to Alfonse and Alice (Lanigan) Richards in Baileyville where she attended school, married Calvin C. Shain in 1951 and raised her family. She worked for many years doing house cleaning and as a substitute teacher in the Baileyville school system. Frances enjoyed many things including crocheting, quilting and the art of ceramics but her children were the true love of her life. In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Calvin Clarence Shain Sr.; her sister, Louise Flood and her brother, Bill Richards. She is survived by two children, Calvin Shain Jr. and his partner, Bonnie McCaffrey, who helped care for Frances in her later years and Vicki Shain McCutcheon and her husband Jim, all of Baileyville; two grandchildren, Shain Phelps and his partner Sue Provencher of Princeton and Shawn Phelps and his wife Cindy of Hermon; great grandchildren, Trent and Brayden Phelps; sister, Rosalie Williams and her husband Dean of Princeton; sisters-in-law Ellen Richards of CT and Betty Badeau and her husband Ray of Springhill, FL and many close friends including Peanut Leland and Luann Durgin, both of Baileyville. A graveside service at Woodland Cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
