Frances M. Strout (Whalen)

Brewer – Frances M. Whalen Strout, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Winterberry Heights in Bangor. Frances, who was affectionately known by family and friends as Dimpy, was born in Eastport on September 11, 1933, the daughter of Oscar and Fannie (Stevenson) Whalen.
Frances was a graduate of Shead Memorial High School and the University of Maine in Orono. After beginning her career in Bar Harbor, Frances taught for many years in Bangor. Frances was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Brewer Garden and Bird Club, and the Frances Dighton Williams Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband Marshall in 2019; two brothers, George and Oscar; and a nephew David. Surviving are two nieces, Debra and Margaret; and a nephew Patrick.
A private burial will take place at Bayside Cemetery in Eastport. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances’ memory may be made to the Peavey Memorial Library, 26 Water St., Eastport, ME 04631. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport. Debra and Margaret would like to express their thanks to the staff at Winterberry Heights for their kind care of Frances.
