Calais – Frank Howard Porter, 79, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at a Calais hospital. Howard was born in Calais on April 7, 1929, son of the late Harry and Hattie (Greenlaw) Porter. He started work with the Northeast Industries Lumber Mill in Calais, until he left for the Korean War. After serving with the U.S. Army, Howard returned to Calais and continued his work at the lumber mill. On August 25, 1955, he married Mary McLean. Upon the mill’s closing, he worked at the Calais Laundry Mat, and finally with the City of Calais Highway Department. Howard was a member of the Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion in Calais. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing horse shoes, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by his brother; his sisters; and a grandson, Steven Porter. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Porter; three children, Gary Porter of Calais, Dougie Porter of Calais, and Kathy Goodine and her husband David of Alexander; five grandchildren, Robbie Seelye of Calais, Erin Norton and her husband Chet of Saco, Joshua Goodine and his companion Rhonda Mitchell, and her daughter Kalah Mitchell of Pembroke, Jason Goodine and his companion Ashley McDonald of Portland, and Justina Goodine of Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Kassidi Porter and Aaron Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
