Indian Township – Franklin Joseph Grant, 25, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 19, 2009. Franklin was born in Calais on February 16, 1984, son of Gregory Grant Sr. and Melvina (Newell) Grant Bassett. He graduated from Lee Academy, Class of 2002. Franklin served his country in the United States Marine Corps, based in Cherry Point, NC. He returned home and worked various jobs, most recently with the Indian Township Forestry Dept. Franklin was predeceased by his father Gregory Grant Sr.; brother Gregory Grant Jr.; paternal grandparents Herbert and Katherine Grant; and his maternal grandfather James Glover. Surviving are his daughter, Tyra Grant; mother Melvina Bassett and her husband Russell, of Indian Township; sisters Juanita Grant of Farmington and Melissa Grant of Bangor;his maternal grandmother Charlotte Glover;uncle Darrell Newell of Indian Township; two aunts Salley Pelley of Hudson, FL and Jeannie Grant of Indian Township; nieces Lila, Mattea and Olivia; nephews Jacob, Jahvon and Oliver; and many paternal aunts and uncles. Visiting hours will be held at his mother’s home, 4 North Eagle Point Rd., Indian Township, starting 11 a.m. Saturday, December 26 until 10 a.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. James Plourde 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann Parish, Peter Dana Point. Burial will follow in the Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
