Pleasant Point – Frederick James Moore Jr., 81, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Frederick was born in Pleasant Point on January 25, 1933, son of the late Frederick and Mary (Neptune) Moore. He attended school in Pleasant Point and at an early age started salt water fishing. Frederick enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and worked for Firestone Tire Co. in Brockton, MA before he eventually returned home. He was a fisherman, master craftsman, basket maker, automotive repairman, and a boat builder. Frederick enjoyed hunting and teaching the Passamaquoddy culture in the tradition of his ancestors. He also taught others the art of basket making and enjoyed his Sunday night poker games with his buddies.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Jeanette (Socobasin) Moore; an infant daughter Gail Moore; and all of his siblings. Surviving are his twelve children, Frances Frey Tomah and husband Stuart of Indian Township, Brenda Moore-Mitchell and husband Dale of Pleasant Point, Frederick Moore III of Pleasant Point, Lynn Taisey and husband Jonathan of Raymond, Nanette Blais and husband Dan of Perry, Margaret Moore and fiancé Clayton of Freeport, Carl Moore and wife Diane of Turner, Douglas Moore and wife Alisa of Pleasant Point and Nevada, Mary Daigle and husband Donald of Kenai, AK, Sandy Yarmal of Robbinston, Sara Newell of Indian Township, and Flora Zalubski and husband Randy of Greene; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will begin 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home, 39 Warrior Rd., Pleasant Point, until 9 a.m. Wednesday. A Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, at St. Ann R.C. Church, Pleasant Point. Burial will take place in the Tribal Cemetery at a later date.
