Pleasant Point – George Gordon Bassett III, 59, passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2020 at his home. George was one of six children born to George S. Bassett Jr and Delia (Francis) Bassett on November 22, 1960.
George attended Washington County Technical College where he studied plumbing, heating and carpentry. He was an amazing carpenter who took great pride in the detail of his work. He could calculate measurements in his head while envisioning the outcome of the project and sometimes even recognize error before it occurred. George truly enjoyed building homes, doing renovations and planning his next job.
He loved his community, George was a member of the Pleasant Point Tribal Council for many years, he coached little league, stayed connected with his family, friends and fellow tribal members and gave just about all of them a nickname. George was particularly fond of the ladies; he had a knack for making people feel good about themselves through his comical demeanor and special attention. He loved his cats and loved his family. George was a proud father, brother, uncle and grampy, he will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind 5 children, Patrick Bassett and his wife Brianna of Bangor, Bernadette Ramos and her husband Adolfo of CA, Michelle Bassett of Mattawaska and Hathaway Bassett; four grandchildren, Beatrice Dianne Bassett, Jaella Ramos, Caleb Bassett and Cadence Hebert; five siblings, Leo Bassett and his wife Jackie of CT, Ruth Bassett of Pleasant Point, Ann Molina of CT, Margaretta Francis and her companion Mike Bard of Bangor and Stephan Bassett of Pleasant Point; nieces and nephews, Raul Molina, Tashina Molina, Elkin Mitchell, Stephan Bassett Jr., Chance Bassett, Alex Doyal, Daisy Lewey, Robin Reed, Shilyn Rea, Belinda Miliano, Adrian Miliano, Anthony Miliano and Frank Miliano; many great nieces and nephews; his three cats, Show Girl, Diva and Night Ranger and many friends.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his child, Jael Hildebrand.
Visitation will be held at the home of Frank Miliano, 67 Koluskap Rd., Pleasant Point, beginning at 8:00 am, on Friday, April 30th until Saturday morning. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in George's honor at 9:00 am, Saturday, May 1st at St. Joseph's Church, 51 Washington St., Eastport. Attendants are asked to follow CDC guidelines. A dinner at Frank's home will follow Mass and all are welcome. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
