Pleasant Point – George Stephan Bassett Jr., 84, was surround by his family when he passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at a Bangor Hospital. George was born in Oak Bay, New Brunswick to George Sr. and Margaret (Polis) Bassett on November 26, 1932 but moved to Pleasant Point shortly after where he grew up and raised his own family.
After being drafted into the U.S. Marines George served in the Korean War, he returned home safely but not before developing a deep pride for his country that lived on in him incessantly. Over the years he worked as a woodsman along with many other seasonal jobs, he always kept busy with whatever the season brought his way.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his first wife, Delia Myra (Francis) Bassett and his second wife, Priscilla (Mitchell) Bassett; a daughter, Bernadette Bassett; son, Patrick Allen Bassett and siblings, Frances Bassett and Kenneth Bassett. He will be remembered by his six children, George Gordon Bassett III, Leo Bassett, Ruth Bassett, all of Pleasant Point, Margarita Mae Francis of Bangor, Anna Molina of Hartford, CT and Stephan Bassett of Pleasant Point; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother Lester “Lane” Bassett of Pleasant Point; and his feline companion Midnight.
Visitation will begin 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 10th until 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at George’s home, 66 Passamaquoddy Rd., in Pleasant Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Kevin J. Martin, 10:00 a.m., Thursday October 12th at St. Joseph Parish, 51 Washington St., Eastport. Committal will follow at Tribal Cemetery in Pleasant Point.
