George Allen Lewey

Pleasant Point – George Allen Lewey, 65, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home in Pleasant Point. George was born in Eastport on March 3, 1954, son of Sabattus Lewey Sr. and Irene (Dana) Lewey.

After he attended school at St. Ann’s School in Pleasant Point, George worked as a dispatcher for the Pleasant Point Police Department and started his career as a custodian. Most recently, he was the custodian for Beatrice Rafferty School for over 20 years. On December 4, 2004, he married his beautiful bride, Alberta. George was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing Bingo and slots, repairing and tinkering with radios.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Paul; four brothers, Alexander, Carleton, Robert and Richard “Moe” Lewey; and his feline companion Bully. Surviving are his wife, Alberta “Bowe” Lewey; four children, Kevin Lewey and fiancé, Jordan, Averyanna Lewey and fiancé Sean, Annie Lewey and Moshun Lewey Gabriel; four step-children, Eunice Francis & husband Eric, Jonathan and Isaiah Damon, and Michael Phelps; two step-grandchildren, Nipon and Wocawson Francis; five sisters, Janet Lewey, Gloria Lewey-Cleaves and husband Frank, Catha Lewey, Sandra Lewey, and Evelyn Lewey-Dore and husband Devon; seven brothers, Sabattus Lewey Jr. and wife Betty, Dennis Lewey and companion Sally-Jo, Thomas Lewey, Michael Lewey Sr. and wife Shonna, James Lewey, Walter Lewey and companion Shelley and Paul Lewey and companion Susan; sister-in-law Cindi Lewey of Pembroke; a special niece Stephanie Lewey; numerous nieces and nephews; bridesmaid and sister-in-law, Sis Sarah; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Annette, Aubrey, Mae, Eddie, Bonnie, Dwayne, Lil, Sebrena and Walter; special cousin, Joey Newell; and a special friends Toast Mitchell and Rebecca Francis.

Visiting hours will be held at Michael & Shonna Lewey’s house, 43 Warrior Rd., Pleasant Point, beginning 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, until 3 p.m. Friday, May 10. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
