Baileyville – George F. Moffitt, 80, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at a Calais nursing home. George was born in Calais, February 9, 1926, son of the late James and Ann (Hiland) Moffitt. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the US Army as a Paratrooper with the 13th Airborne Division. George was a member of St. James the Greater R.C. Church and the William T. Wren Post #23 American Legion, both in Baileyville, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was predeceased by three brothers, John Hiland and Robert and Thomas Moffitt. Surviving are his four children, James Moffitt and wife Gail of Baileyville, Kenneth Moffitt and wife Veronica of Princeton, Phyllis Stevens of Baileyville, and Beverly Casey and husband Gordon of Calais; a sister, Phyllis Belyea of Rumford; ten grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Valerie, Starly, Tara, Shannon, Billy-Jo, Gwen, Amanda, and Joe; seventeen great-grandchildren; a very dear friend, Alice White of Baileyville; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Frank Morin 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery
