George Raymond Robinson

Edmunds – G. Raymond “Ray” Robinson, 97, passed away Wednesday, February 08, 2012 at his home. Ray was born in Gouldsboro on January 31, 1915, the only child of William and Shirley (Crane) Robinson. He graduated from Dennysville High School and was attending Gorham State Teachers College when he was inducted into the U. S. Army Air Forces. Before leaving, he and Evelyn Ward, whom he met in college, were married June 20, 1942. Ray was sent to Fort Devens, MA and then was stationed at Miami Beach, FL for four months, where Evelyn joined him. Nine months were spent in Pocatello, ID as a member of the Celestial Navigation Training Dept. The remainder of his service was at the B-29 base at Russell, Kansas. He was very fortunate to live off the Army bases throughout the war with his wife Evelyn and daughter Sandra. At the conclusion of the war, Ray and his family returned to Edmunds. Their son James was born in 1947. After finishing his education, Ray and Evelyn taught school in Eastport. They also operated their cottages until they retired. After retiring, they traveled extensively and after a few years they settled in Panama City Beach, FL for the winter months and their home in Edmunds for the summers. Eventually they stopped traveling and remained at their home in Edmunds. Ray was one of the founders and an active member of the Downeast Atlantic Salmon Federation. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years Evelyn; their daughter Sandra Smyth and her husband James of Boothbay; their son James Robinson and wife Gladys of Edmunds; 10 grandchildren, Beth, Kara, Kathy, Stacy, Darcy, Bill, Leslie, Jackie, Ben and Brooke; and 13 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Dennysville Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
