Abington, MA & Baileyville – Gerald Francis Casey, 80, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. Gerald was born in St. Stephen, NB on December 24, 1932, son of the late Charles and Florence (Kelly) Casey.
He graduated from St. Croix High School in Baileyville, Class of 1950. During his senior year of high school, Gerald enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He was employed with St. Croix Paper Co. until being called to active duty in October of 1955 to serve in the Korean War. After the war, Gerald returned to Baileyville and moved to Boston in 1960 to begin his career as a long haul truck driver. He was a Communicant of Saint Bridget Parish in Abington, MA for over 25 years, and was a member of the American Legion. Gerald enjoyed watching sports and staying active by going to the health club in Abington.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Edward L. Casey. Surviving are his brother Charles W. Casey Jr. of Calais; sister-in-law Virginia Casey of St. Andrews, NB; a nephew Charles Edward Casey and his wife Heather of St. John, NB; and a great-nephew Dallas Casey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rob Lupo 10 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
