Obituary for Gerald Edward Maloney

Robbinston – Gerald “Gerry” Edward Maloney, 88, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 17, 2009. Gerry was born in Lowell, Mass. on June 30, 1921, son of the late Darby and Florence (Sawyer) Maloney. After graduating from Lowell High School, Class of 1938, he began his career as a sheet metal worker for Local 17 Sheet Metal Workers National Assoc. In 1942, Gerry entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country in WWII. While stationed in Quoddy Village, he met the love of his life, Ruth Richardson. They were married shortly after in Brookline, MA on July 29, 1944. Following his military duty, Gerry returned to Massachusetts where he went back to work for Local 17, retiring in 1981. In the mid 1980’s, Gerry and Ruth moved to Maine where they have been ever since. He was an avid golfer and member of the Maritime Seniors Golf Club at the Algonquin Golf Club in St. Andrews. Gerry also was a member of the American Legion. Besides golfing, he enjoyed traveling around the world and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Gerald Maloney Jr. and his wife Catherine; a sister Frances and Elliott Thomas of Quincy, MA; a brother Robert Maloney Lowell, MA; and brothers and sisters-in-law Merlin Wallace of Pembroke, Paul and Nina Richardson of Eastport, and Raymond Bailey of Dracut, MA. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Maloney; two children, Jeanne Mason and her husband Dr. Roger Mason of Trinidad, West Indies, and Jack Maloney and his wife Bernadette of Perry; his sister Bernice Bailey of Billerica, MA; four grandchildren, Dr. Heidi Sarabia and her husband Dr. Alan Sarabia of Richmond, IN, Ben Maloney of Bangor, Sgt. Derek Maloney, U.S. Army stationed at Schofield Barracks, HI, and Zachary Maloney of Perry; sisters-in-law Muriel Wallace of Eastport and Estelle Maloney of Dracut, MA; nephews and nieces Richard Maloney and his wife Mary Ellen of Lowell, MA, Stephen Maloney and his wife Claire of Dracut, MA, Peter Thomas and his wife Alice of Georgetown, MA; Doug Richardson and his wife Shirley of Eastport, and Julie Leppin and her husband Charlie of Eastport; grand nieces and grand nephews Patrick and Nora Calder, Charlie Lepin Jr., and Haley and Arielle Richardson; and many other grand nieces and grand nephews; his golf partners from St. Andrews, N.B. and his fellow friends who gathered at Dunkin Donuts in Calais.
