Calais – Geraldine C. (McShane) Childs, 90, died peacefully after a long illness on October 4, 2016 at home with her family by her side. Gerry was born on March 19, 1926 in Dumbarton, New Brunswick to the late Mark A. and LaVera (Osgood) McShane.
While attending Milltown High School she worked at the Canadian Cotton Mill during WWII. After graduating from Holy Rosary Commercial School in 1945 she married the love of her life, Harvey in 1947. Together they moved to Rockland where they raised their three children. Harvey and Gerry eventually returned to Calais, they were happily married for over 50 years.
Geraldine is survived by her three children, Gregory Childs and his wife Karen of Scotch Ridge, N.B., Brian Childs of Bocabec, N.B., and Cheryl Childs of Calais; two grandsons, Travis and Christopher Childs; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her husband, Harvey; grandson, Jeremiah; siblings, Juanita Dickerson, Mona Weatherby and Mary, Carl, Ralphie, Harold, Paul and James McShane. She was the last surviving McShane of her generation.
Gerry was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais where she made many dear friends. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Community Health and Counseling Services Hospice, especially Lori, Stephanie and Karen. A very special thanks to Janet Wooding for her faith and friendship to Gerry during her most difficult times. Memorial contributions would be welcome at your local food pantry.
Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6th at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Memorial Mass will begin 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 7th at Immaculate Conception Church, Calais Ave., Calais, with Father Kevin Martin officiating. Committal will follow at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
