Obituary for Gertrude Anastatia Bass

Glenburn & Baileyville – Gertrude Anastatia “Anne” Bass, 68, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at a Bangor hospital. Anne was born in Charlottetown, PEI, on November 20, 1945, daughter of the late Maxwell and Alberta (Saulnier) Mullins. After attending school in Charlottetown, she moved to St. Stephen where she worked for Ganongs and met her future husband, Charles Bass. They were married on June 27, 1963, and together they moved to Massachusetts. In 1979 they moved to Calais where she worked for Mall Drug and Chilis. In 1984, Anne and Charles purchased Bass Motel in Baileyville, which they owned and operated until 2004. She was a Communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville and enjoyed bingo, playing slot machines, computer games, quilting, scrapbooking, crocheting, and many other arts and crafts.

In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her husband Charles in 2006; and a sister Joanne Robinson. Surviving are her daughter Annette M. Bass and her companion Frank Dow Sr. of Glenburn; granddaughter and best friend whom she loved dearly, Marisa McCray of Standish; four sisters, Yvonne Munn of New Brandon, NB, Delphene Ford and husband Billy of Souris, PEI, Isabelle Savoy of St. Stephen, and Marie Clowater and husband Rick of St. Stephen; five brothers, Clifford Mullins of Blacks Harbour, NB, Francis “Sonny” Mullins and wife Viola of New Bandon, NB, Charlie Mullins and wife Susan of Red Deer, AB, Danny Mullins and wife Janice of Pennfield, NB, and Jerry Mullins and wife Liz of Calgary, AB; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Charlie Frost of Clinton, MA, Vincent and Irene Bass of Bradenton, FL, Norman and Betty Bass of Omaha, NE, and Florine “Peanie” and Wayne McAvoy of Port Charlotte, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and her canine companions Bella and Dammit.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Baileyville.
