Calais – Gertrude Jean “Trudy” O’Neill, 75, died Monday, February 06, 2006 at a Bangor hospital. Trudy was born in Norton, N.B., August 2, 1930, daughter of the late Talmadge and Lily (Tait) Vail. She graduated in 1951 from the Chipman/Charlotte County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at the Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen, N.B. While in college, she met Donald O’Neill, whom she married on September 16, 1952. Trudy was a member of the Chipman School of Nursing Alumni, former Lioness and enjoyed playing cards and scrabble with her close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Don in 2001, and a brother, Murray Vail. Surviving are her children and grandchildren , whom she loved dearly; Two sons, Vince O’Neill and wife Renee of Cooper, and Jeff O’Neill and Debbie Seger of Calais; two daughters, Donna O’Neill and friend Mike Cole of Fort Pierce, FL, and Janie Morrell and husband Ernie of Calais; eight grandchildren, Janice McConvey, Erin Adams and husband Andy, Chris LaPointe, Michael Morrell and wife Carrie, Darren Morrell, Nathan O’Neill, Jayden O’Neill, and Michaela Carson; four great-grandchildren, Tiara Knowles, Connor and Ryan Adams, and Asa Morrell; a brother, Talmadge Vail of Toronto; five sisters, Viola Maxey of Toronto, May Muir of Heathland, N.B., Ina Russell of Oak Hill, N.B., Fern Armstrong of Norton, N.B. and Gerna McCullum of Norton, N.B.; several nieces and nephews, and all her special friends that cared for her. Friends may call 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 9, at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating.
