Baileyville – Gladys Marion McCray, 88, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Gladys was born in Calais on November 22, 1931, daughter of Melvin and Evelyn (Dean) Hanson.
After graduating from Woodland High School in Baileyville, Gladys moved to Bangor to work in a local shoe factory. Eventually she returned to Baileyville and on April 12, 1968 married Albin McCray. Gladys was a member of the People’ United Methodist Church in Bailevyille and enjoyed cooking, playing Beano, shopping, and spending time at her camp on Meddybemps Lake.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband Albin; her daughter Bonnie Leeman; two brothers, Kenneth Hanson and Edward Hanson and his wife Marilyn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merritt and Susan McCray, Charles McCray, Edward and Nancy McCray, and Cecile Moreside; a special aunt Barbara Boomer; and her dear friend, Arlene McLaughlin. Surviving are her son Corey McCray of Baileyville; her brother Alvin Hanson and wife Patsy of Baileyville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Millie Hanson of Baileyville, Patsy and Earl Hill of Alexander, Barbara and Tom Hickok of Matthews, NC, Jill Hamilton of Princeton, Irene Moreside of Calais, and Chester and Shirley McCray of Baileyville; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2020 with Pastor Nicholas Guay officiating, at the Woodland Cemetery, Ryan Road, in Baileyville. COVID restrictions must be followed.
