Charlotte - Glenna Wood Ferris, 69, passed away suddenly at a Portland Hospital, on June 23, 2013 surrounded by her family.
She was born in Peytona, WV on January 28, 1944 with the distinction of being the only female in the Wood generation. Glenna’s family then relocated, settling in New Haven, CT in 1959 attending high school and college there. She was an alumni of University of New Haven, Quinnipiac University, and American Graduate University subsequently earning two masters degrees. Glenna was a longtime member of and held various offices in the NCMA (National Contracts Management Association), and was a certified Professional Contracts Manager attaining “fellow” status. Glenna was employed by several prominent aerospace and defense contractors, either as a Program Manager or Director of Contracts. Retiring to Maine in 2006 with her loving husband of 27 years, David, and creating a new home at their Pennamaquan lakeside retreat.
Glenna was predeceased by her older brother Jerry Elmer Wood in 2006. Glenna leaves her mother Inis Kinder Wood Sikorski, age 91 of Dunbar, WV, two younger brothers, Curtis Richard Wood of Nitro, WV, and John W. Wood II of Dunbar, WV and several cousin, nieces, and nephews, Glenna’s daughter Lora Lynn Giramonte and husband Frank Giramonte of Clinton, CT, granddaughters Brittani Jessica Giramonte, Lindsey Ashton Elizabeth Giramonte, great granddaughters Andrea Marie Giramonte (18 mos), and Isabella Valentina Vallucci born May 28th, 2013.
Glenna will greatly be missed by husband David Pierce Ferris who has been also her dear friend and partner. David’s daughter Lynn Ann Ferris Mulholland, husband James Colin Mulholland of Salem, CT. Grandsons Colin James Mulholland, Sean Patrick Mulholland, Pierce Wellington Mulholland and granddaughter Rachel Mulholland. David’s daughter Lori Ann Ferris Campany, her Fiance Ronald Terrio of Glastonbury, CT, granddaughters Katrina Celeste Campany, and Jade Summer Campany.

Glenna loved her role as a Program Manager of the Good Year Blimp landing gear program and her being aloft over Long Beach, California as a passenger and her receiving lifetime pass to fly on the Blimps. Glenna has amazed all her health care professionals with her courage and ability to deal with Scleroderma and its related problems which she has battled to the end with dignity and courage.
Glenna was and is, daughter, mother wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and a gracious lady of great personal warmth and at all times in possession of a pure heart. No greater citizen of the world has existed. We must all now honor her passing and make note of all she has given to our collective lives.
A celebration of Glenna’s life will be held beginning at 11:00 am July 8, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Rob Lupo 1:00 pm at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais. Burial will follow at Round Pond Cemetery in Charlotte. A further memorial mass and luncheon will be scheduled in Connecticut in the near future allowing her many relatives, friends, and colleagues an opportunity to celebrate her life.
