EASTPORT & SOUTH PORTLAND – Gordon E. “Bud” Grant, 76, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on February, 03, 2012 at his home in Eastport. Bud was born to Albert E. and Abbey L. (Pugsley) Grant on January 31, 1936 in Rumford. He spent the majority of his childhood in Cape Elizabeth and South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School, class of 1954. He then joined the US Navy, serving 4 years, most of which was on the same ship, making 2 cruises to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean and two cruises to the Far East, visiting 17 different countries. Beginning in 1958, Bud worked for several retail chains as a credit manager, after which he was employed by the Cumberland Savings and Loan Association as a teller. He also was a Treasury Aide for the City of Portland until finding his calling with the South Portland Fire Department, where he spent 21 eventful years until his retirement in 1986. While in the Fire Department, Bud worked part time as a driver/guard for Brinks Inc. After retirement, Bud worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority as a toll collector, and later drove for Elton John Courier Service. Bud was a former member of the South Portland Eagles Club, and was umpire in chief of the Windham Little League. Bud was a member of Eastern Lodge # 7, A.F. and A.M., where he currently was serving as secretary. He also played drums for many years in area clubs. Bud enjoyed camping, fishing, kayaking and trips to Northern and Western Maine, eventually settling in Eastport where he and his wife recently purchased their dream home. Bud was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his wife and soul mate, Marjorie (Smith) Grant, his daughter, Susan Grant of Auburn; stepdaughter Wendy Cordova of Gainesville, GA; two granddaughters Brianna Grant of Vermont and Iliana Cordova of Gainesville, GA; sister, Nancy Daniels of Sabattus; a nephew, Michael Daniels and his wife Karen of TX and two nieces, Pam Daniels of Scarborough and Debbie Jones and her husband John of Scarborough. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6th at Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church, 74 High St., Eastport with Wendy Cordova officiating. Services are in the care of Mays Funeral Home-Flagg Chapel, Eastport.
