Calais – Greta Mae Stevens, 96, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center. Aunt Greta, as she was known to everyone, was a very strong and determined woman. She was a true born again Christian and was devoted to Jesus Christ. She left a mark on everyone’s life that knew her. Greta was born in Pembroke, December 21, 1911, daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie Mae (Moore) Stevens. She was employed as a Tube Stem Operator with Raytheon in Massachusetts for over 43 years, retiring in 1976. Greta was a member and Union Steward of Local #1505 I.B.E.W. of Waltham, MA. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by six brothers, Elmer Stevens, Vincent Stevens, Cecil Stevens, Milton Stevens, Neil Stevens, and Herbert (Weston) Moore; two sisters, Virginia Preston and Maysie Munson; and a niece, Margaret (Peggy) Gentile. Surviving are a special nephew, George Stevens and his wife Kathleen of Calais; three great-nieces, Annemarie Thomas of Calais (whom she brought up as her own daughter for many years), Shauna Stevens of New Hampshire, and Audrey Stevens of Dedham, MA; one great nephew, Earl Stevens and his companion Shannon Allen of Bangor; one great-great nephew, John Charles Hatt III of Calais; and many other nieces and nephews. All of her nieces and nephews meant everything to her. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
