Obituary for Grover Cleveland Wittig Jr.

Alexander, ME and Bolton, MA – Grover “Bud” Wittig Jr., 84, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Bud was born in Clinton, MA on August 19, 1930, son of the late Grover and Agnes (Baird) Wittig Sr. He graduated from Clinton High School, Class of 1948, and the Worcester Boys Trade School where he studied plumbing. Bud enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard and started his plumbing career. On December 10, 1955, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Wheeler in Clinton, MA. Bud owned and operated his own business, initially known as Bud’s Plumbing and Heating, and later known as Bolton Plumbing and Heating, until retiring in the early 1990’s. At the same time, Bud retired as a Chief Warrant Officer from the 323rd Maintenance Company at Ft. Devens, MA after 30 years of service. During his enlistment in the Army, Bud served in and artillery units and later in the vehicle maintenance and recovery unit of the 323rd. Following retirement, Bud and his wife Betty moved to Alexander, Maine. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a 50 year Life Member of Plumbers Union Local #4 of Worcester, MA, and a 61 year member of Trinity Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Clinton, MA.

In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by a sister Viola Phillips. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Wittig of Alexander, ME; three children, Dale Wittig and wife Emily of Manassas, VA, Dean Wittig and wife Laurin of Williambsburg, VA, and David Wittig and wife Denise of Sterling, MA; five grandchildren, Samantha, Abigail, Alexandria, Alexander, and Dane; a sister Flora Kunst of Sterling, MA; and many nephews.

In keeping with Bud’s wishes, there will be no services. Donations in Bud’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.maysfuneralhome.com
