Obituary for Harold Dodge

BANGOR - Harold "Dodgie" Dodge, 92, went home to be with his Lord early Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2006, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. He died surrounded by his devoted wife of 61 years, Alice (Scribner) Dodge of Baring; his loving daughter, Linda Dodge of Bangor; and a dear family friend, Edward Paradis of Old Town. He was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Calais, the son of Harley and Olive Dodge. Harold lived a full and vibrant life of 92 years. He resided most of his life in Calais and Baring with the exception of four years when he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In his early years, he worked for Eastern Pulpwood Co. and following the war was employed by St. Croix Paper Co., retiring from Georgia-Pacific Corporation in 1972. He was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Baileyville where he served the Lord for years as head usher. Harold was loved for his friendly and outgoing personality and strangers, to him, were simply friends he'd never met. He was a member of the American Legion Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 and a life member of the DAV John F. Kennedy Post No. 6 of Bangor. Harold was an avid golfer and in his prime was considered by many to be "one of the best." He was predeceased by their precious baby daughter, Judith Elaine Dodge in 1946; by his brothers-in-law, Ivan, Merton and Guy Scribner; and one sister-in-law, Ethel (Scribner) Demers. Along with his wife and daughter, he is survived by several nieces and nephews and many special friends. Visiting hour is 2-3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, with the funeral immediately following at 3 p.m. Pastor Linwood Trott and Pastor Bob Hinton, officiating. Donations may be made in Harold's memory to the Shepherd's Godparent Home (for pregnant teens), P.O. Box 616, Bangor, ME 04402-0616
