Calais – Harold Edward Farrar, 83, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Penobscot Nursing Home. Harold was born in Calais on April 15, 1929, son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Waycott) Farrar. He attended the Calais area schools and moved to Rhode Island and worked for Decorated Fabrics in Pawtucket. In 1951, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country with the 3rd Battalion, 110th Infantry. Following his service he returned to Rhode Island and married Edna Hesketh on February 12, 1954. They moved to Wallingford, CT where Harold worked for American Cyanamid, retiring in 1987 with over 30 years of service. Upon his retirement they moved to Sanbornton, NH. After his wife Enda passed away in 2001, Harold returned to Calais. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Wallingford, CT, as well as in New Hampshire, and Sherman Bros. Post #3 American Legion in Calais. Harold enjoyed woodworking and making toys for children. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Mark Farrar; a sister Helen Howard; and a sister-in-law Jane Anne Farrar. Surviving are two sons, Ralph Farrar of Nashua, NH, and Keith Farrar of Ossippe, NH; two brothers, Robert Farrar and his wife Jeanette of Hermon, and Richard Farrar of Calais; five grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion Harriett Parker of Lubec. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
