Harold Wellington Grant, 86, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Harold was born in Calais on August 5, 1936, son of Blake and Ariel (Brown) Grant.
After graduating from Wytopitlock High School, Class of 1954, Harold attended University of Maine in Orono and worked in the woods. In 1958 he received an apprenticeship at Bath Iron Works. In 1966 Harold and his wife Jane (Pierce) Grant moved to Baileyville where he worked for the paper mill. Harold owned and operated Grants Family Restaurant in Baileyville for many years. He finished his career with Willette Welding in Old Town, retiring in 1998. Harold was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching sports (especially the New York teams), and owned and raced horses.
In addition to his parents Blake and Ariel, Harold was predeceased by his beloved wife Jane. Surviving are his two children, Kevin Grant and wife Connie of Winslow, and Kelly Perry and husband Jamie of Calais; four grandchildren, Micah Grant and wife Amanda of Hermon, Jared Grant and wife Lindsey of Cameron, NC, Shandi Howell and fiancé Chris Short of West Paris, and Justin MacArthur of West Baldwin; ten great-grandchildren, Malachi, Levi, Josiah, and Charlotte Grant, Mason Howell, Camden and Hudson Short, and Bella, Sawyer, and Abrahm MacArthur; his best friend Anne Riddell of Baileyville; and his feline companion Nugget.
