Obituary for Hazel Muriel Keezer

EASTPORT – Hazel Muriel Keezer, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Eastern Maine Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Hazel was born to Frederick and Ellen (Ackerly) Folger in Everett, MA on January 19, 1929. She spent her childhood in Pennfield, New Brunswick. She married Bob Keezer in 1948, during their courtship Bob would fly over Hazel’s house and drop notes of admiration attached to small rocks; this was the beginning of 51 wonderful years of marriage until Bob’s death in 1999. Hazel worked many jobs over the years, mostly cooking. She was a licensed nutritionist and she cooked for many years at the Eastport Elementary School and then at the Head Start in Eastport. Hazel enjoyed the company of children, from the one room school house in Pennfield to a modern day head start. Hazel was a lifelong active member of the Blakey United Methodist Church in Eastport; she stood for what religion is supposed to be by living what she believed. Hazel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Eastport and volunteered with the American Legion Auxiliary. Hazel loved Eastport; she developed so many meaningful relationships over the years but her greatest love was her family. In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Bob” Keezer; daughter, Janet I. Townsend; brother, Bobby Folger and a special Aunt Carrie Lank. Survivors include two children, David W. Keezer and his wife Bonnie Bates of Bangor and Elizabeth C. Keezer of Norfolk, VA; son-in-law, Buster Townsend; five grandchildren, Jennifer Dolan, Joshua Keezer, Jessica Keezer, Ryan DeWitt and Benjamin Spencer; seven great grandchildren, William, Kaya, Ainsley, Zachary, Hunter, Krystal and Kaylee and a special friend, Doug DeWitt. Visiting hours will be held 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15th at Mays Funeral Home-Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16th at Blakey United Methodist Church, 74 High St., Eastport.
