Hazel Jean (Keen) Kelley passed away peacefully June 9th at Westgate Manor. Where she will be fondly remembered by the loving staff for always saying "I love you". Jean was born December 21st, 1940, to Horace and Leona Keen. She was one of 8 brothers and sisters.
Jean was from Cooper and attended Calais High School where she met her Mr. Wonderful James Kelley Jr. The couple married September 20th, 1957, and went on to have three children James, Katherine and David. The couple worked side by side running a family business Kelley's Apparel in Calais for many years. They then moved to the Brewer/Holden area where she worked at Filene's and Macy's. When not working or with family her passions included singing with the Barbershoppers, collecting antiques and cookbooks. She was also a very active member of her community belonging to groups and boards such as the Lioness and the Calais school board.
Jean is pre-deceased by her loving husband James P. Kelley Jr., her son James P. Kelley 3rd. And his wife Donna Kelley. She is survived by her daughter Katherine Kelley and son David Kelley, sister Virgina Burke and brother Richard Keen, grandchildren Amanda Lawless, Joseph Lyons, Tonya Stewart, Candace Kelley-Welch, Tara Small, Kayla Doten, Liam and Alison Kelley Great grandchildren Cameron Kelley, Summer and Isaac Stewart and William Small.
A Celebration of life will be held June 29th at 1pm at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St, Calais, with a graveside service to follow for both Jean and Jim at Calais Cemetery. A time of fellowship will follow at 21 High St. in Calais. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
