Obituary for Helen Marie Cookson

Calais – Helen Marie Bartlett Cookson, 79, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Helen was born in Calais on March 1, 1930, daughter of the late William and Zeltha (Smith) McLean. She attended the Calais area schools and worked for many years at Ware Knitters, Sweet Things Bakery, and for the kitchen at Calais High School. Helen was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Calais. She enjoyed crafts, cake decorating, going to camp and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Carl Bartlett in 1953; and five brothers, John, Wallace, Ralph, Frank and Robert McLean. Surviving are her husband of 30 years, Ross Cookson; four children, Peggy Fader of Calais, Gerry Bartlett and his wife Sharon of Calais, Carl Bartlett of British Columbia, Canada, and Brenda Bartlett Dupuis and her husband Paul of St. Stephen, N.B.; her sister, Mary Porter of Calais; four sisters-in-law, Marion McLean of Calais, Elizabeth McLean of Massachusetts, Martha Bartlett of St. Stephen, N.B., and Rachel Bartlett of St. Stephen; nine grandchildren, Julie Carrier and her husband Michael of Calais, Timothy Fader and his wife Shannon of Brewer, Amy McCoy and her husband Mitchell of Northwood, North Dakota, Melissa Cooper and her husband Larry Joe of Calais, Joseph Bartlett and his companion Roliza DeWitt of Calais, Christopher Bartlett of Calais, Jessica Bartlett of Fredericton, N.B., Mandy Beaman and her companion Brent Dunn of St. Stephen, and Matthew Fraser of Woodstock, N.B.; a step-grandson, Joshua Dupuis of St. Stephen; 14 great-grandchildren, Courtney Carrier, Devon Carrier, Ian Fader, Lane McCoy, Destiny McCoy, Maisie Hurd, Isabella McDonald, Noah Bartlett, Patrick Bartlett, Jordan Bartlett, Zeke Beaman, Ayden Dunn, Kinzie Dunn and Brodie Montgomery; many step-children and their families, and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais & Eastport.
