Helen Jean Kilby, 69, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family in Edmunds, Maine, on Sunday, February 26, 2023, after a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Helen was born on December 6, 1953, in Machias, Maine to Myron Lee and Elizabeth Julia (Gardner) Curtis.

Helen attended Edmunds Consolidated School and later graduated from Pembroke High School in 1972. On June 8, 1973, she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Paul Kilby. They began their life in Edmunds, moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Old Town, Maine, and back to Edmunds for the majority of their married years. They would have celebrated a 50-year milestone anniversary this year.

Helen was employed for over 30 years at the Superintendent of Schools Office for School Union 104 and AOS 77. She happily dedicated her career to serving our community school systems. In addition, she spent time working at her parents' store, C&M Fuels, as well as working at Training and Development Corporation in Bangor, Maine. Helen is an active member of the Holy Trinity Chapel in Dennysville, Maine.

Helen was predeceased by her father, Myron, on January 2, 2018, her mother, Elizabeth on February 23, 2019, and her beloved son, Michael Evan Kilby, on May 1, 2019.

Helen is survived by her husband, Ronald Kilby, of Edmunds; her daughter, Michelle Curtis and son-in-law, Judson, of Kissimmee, Florida; daughter-in-law, Lacey Kilby of Edmunds; her grandchildren Rylan, Kagan, and Londyn Curtis, and Michael Kilby, Jr.; sister Gladys Robinson and brother-in-law, James, of Edmunds; brother, Charlie Curtis, of Perry; and sister-in-law, Eileen Dougherty, of Eastport. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Emily VanOrmer, husband Chris, and daughter Elayna of Edmunds; Nancy Curtis of Dennysville; and Billy Curtis, wife Meredith, and son Myron of Greenville; Benjamin Robinson of Baileyville; Brooke Robinson of Edmunds; and many special cousins. Helen leaves behind special friends Cheryl Curtis and Alan and Sue Andraeas. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Edmunds Consolidated School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Dennys River Ambulance.
