Calais – Helen passed away November 15, 2021, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, due to pneumonia complications from COVID-19.
When you looked in her eyes you could tell everything that you would ever need to know about her. You could tell that she loved you and was selfless towards others in a way that is rare. She came into this world as a 2 lb., 2oz., fighter to parents Charles “Chuck” and Doris Bivens and as a little sister to Roscoe. She was born and raised in Oregon where she met the love of her life and raised her family. She married Richard after dating for a mere two weeks. A marriage that would span 54 years, until he passed away just shy of one year ago. They raised three daughters together Pam, Tammy, and Kim who were their whole world and they were utterly devoted to. They learned the joys of having a son-in-law Jay and quickly followed by the ultimate joys of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grandchildren, Alex, Courtney and her fiancé, Jeffrey, Matt and his wife Donna, Ryan and his fiancée Amber and Jessica, all brought her so much joy, she thought her heart would burst but she found so much more room when great granddaughter, Charlotte came into her life. She didn’t care if you weren’t hers by blood, she had a special bond with honorary sons, Bill and Rick and his wife Jennifer and the children that surrounded her, David, Autumn, Liam, Journey, Trinity, Jacobie, Ayden, Emmy, and Gabe and too many beloved pets to even begin to mention. She always loved a good sob story and would take in anyone or anything that needed her.
She passed surrounded by all of the love that her family could send her wrapped in the arms of her daughter and listening to her favorite hymns, by Elvis Presley. There is a hole in our family and our lives that can never be filled except with the love and memories that she left with us. She is finally in the arms of those that she loved that had passed before her and will be waiting for us all when we are finally reunited with a warm meal and a huge hug.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be planned for the summer of 2022. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
