Meddybemps, ME and Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Helon Emile Turmel, 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in Providence, RI. He was the son of Prosper and Rosee Turmel of Jackman, ME. He was married in 1945 to Florence Turmel, his wife of 71 years. Helon was a WWII Veteran and D-Day Survivor and was awarded the Bronze Star and Legion of Honor (France) among other awards for his service. They made their home in Lewiston, Meddybemps, and Daytona Beach, FL. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf. Helon was the owner of Turmel Appliance Service, a family business for over 25 years.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Nadeau, his son Eric, two grandchildren, two sisters, Eleanor and Julie, his brother Ivan (Dody), many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. He was a wonderful, husband, father and friend and will be dearly missed for his strength, kindness and dedication to family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Febuary 4, 2017 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Kevin J. Martin, Celebrant, 12 noon Saturday, February 4, at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Calais Ave., in Calais. Following the Mass, Helon will be laid to rest with Military Honors in Meddybemps Cemetery, beside his beloved wife.
