Pembroke – Howard Elliott Moore, 93, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2011 at Calais Regional Hospital with his son, Robert and grandson Brian by his side. Elliott was born in Pembroke to Howard William and Joycena (Gillis) Moore on December 4, 1917. He grew up in Pembroke graduating from Pembroke High School, class of 1936. Elliott began working for Lane Construction after high school helping in the construction of both Princeton and Eastport Airports until he was drafted into the Army in 1942. Serving during WWII in Europe Elliott worked as a surgical technician in an operating room; while on maneuvers in Waltham, MA he married Theresa Spear in September of 1943, he was discharged in 1945. After returning from the war Elliott worked for several years in both the American Can Company in Lubec and in a tomato greenhouse as a machine operator in Wellesley, MA. Before his retirement in the 1980’s Elliott had cared for the town of Pembroke’s landscaping needs while he also owned and operated his electronics store, Morgan & Moore TV, in Pembroke. Elliott stayed busy after retirement with small TV repairs and landscaping jobs, he enjoyed playing baseball, reading and spending time with his wife and family. Elliott was a member of the Pembroke American Legion, Post 59, the Happy Gang and Seniority Club, both of Calais and the Pembroke Historical Society; he was also a member of the People’s United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. In addition to his parents, Elliott was predeceased by his wife in 1987, Theresa (Spear) Moore; son George Moore; daughter-in-law Sandra Moore; 4 sisters Evelyn Atkinson, Edith Large, Ruth Sprague and Bertha Burke and grandson, Michael Agrillo. Surviving are 2 children, Howard Robert Moore of Pembroke and Mary Agrillo of Holden; 4 grandchildren, Brian Moore and his wife Debra of Pembroke, Brent Inman of Holden, Lisa Emerson and her husband Stephen on Monroe and Jonethan Moore and his wife Susan of Portland; several great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and his dear friend Barbara Owen of Pembroke. A graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Pembroke in the spring.
